Canon PIXMA MG2100 Driver Download– Like all Canon’s MG lineup printers, this printer has a low-profile design and is only 152mm tall. However, it is quite wide at 449mm, so it will still take up a lot of space on a home office desk or shelf.
The layout is quite attractive, thanks to the rounded corners. The matte black finish looks business-like and doesn’t appear finger smudges like the glossy styling of some models.
This printer has only one flip-down paper tray at the bottom that holds 100 sheets. Unsurprisingly at this price, it doesn’t have a dedicated photo paper area, so you have to take off your A4 sheet every time you want to print a snap.
The printout is loaded into another flip-out tray just above the input tray. Both are made of plastic and feel quite flimsy.
Like the MG3150, this model lacks a proper screen. Instead, it relies on a single-digit numeric display. Next is a plus button to increase the number of copies when you use it as a copier. There is no minus button — you can press the Cancel button to return to the default single copy set.
Below you’ll find the paper selection button, which cycles through the three default paper types — A4 photo paper, standard A4 photo, and 10x15cm photo paper.
Canon PIXMA MG2100 Setup
The MG2100 has a poster-sized set-up sheet with step-by-step instructions, so getting this model up and running shouldn’t take long. All you have to do is place the two ink cartridges in an easy-to-reach place hidden behind the plastic cover on the front, then install the software on your PC.
This model doesn’t have Wi-Fi or Ethernet, so you can only connect it directly to a PC via USB.
Canon PIXMA MG2100 Scan and copy
The flatbed scanner has an optical resolution of 2,400dpi, but it’s far from the fastest scanner we’ve used. Nevertheless, the result is an acceptable level for a multi-functional model in this price group. Therefore, if you start using a higher quality setting, you will see much image noise.
Copy quality is decent but not fast when producing a copy of our one-page test document. It took 22 seconds to finish the job. Other budget models we’ve tested accomplish this task in about 18 seconds.
Print speed and quality
Where the advantage of the MG2100 is in the quality of its output, the text is neatly shaped without the fluff you sometimes get on budget models. The colors in our business presentations and test graphics are also very bold and strong, with only a few streaks across large blocks of color.
With photos, it doesn’t perform as well as you’d expect from Canon’s high-end models that use five and six ink cartridges. Nevertheless, the resulting images are impressive by budget standards.
High print quality seems to be paid for with print speed. This is not a very fast model. It was slow at printing text, taking 1 minute and 45 seconds to complete our 10-page text document. It also struggles for speed with color printing.
Our business presentation test took 4 minutes and 12 seconds, while the graphics test took 4 and 47 seconds. Both are slow compared to competitors of the same price.
This is a faster performance when it comes to photo printing. It completed our 4×6-inch snap in 48 seconds, which is fast.
Like the MG3150, this model uses only two cartridges — one color combination and one black. Combination color cartridges are not very economical because once one color runs out, you have to replace the entire cartridge.
Nevertheless, the cost per printed page is quite reasonable. A black and white page costs around 3.5p, and a color page will set you back 4.7p. Both prices include 0.7p for paper.
The MG2100 produces impressive prints for both text and graphics, and it’s also inexpensive to operate.
However, the print speed is quite slow. Spending just £10 more on the MG3250 will get you Wi-Fi support and duplex printing that this model lacks. We don’t think the MG2100 represents great value for money.
